Spitfire 80 is a unique tribute by Aston Martin Cambridge to the Supermarine Spitfire, celebrating 80 years of this magnificent aircraft and Great British Engineering. Exactly like the pioneering Supermarine Spitfire, the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 features a large capacity V12 engine mounted in a lightweight aluminium frame to achieve awe-inspiring performance with true elegance.
So it is fitting that every person who owns this extraordinary piece of engineering enjoyed an exclusive handover ceremony, held in October 2016 amidst the Airspace exhibition at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Britain’s best-preserved Second World War airfield and Europe’s premier aviation museum.
Strictly limited to eight models, the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 makes its excellence clear with unique Q by Aston Martin styling to match original Spitfire aircraft. Finished in Duxford Green Pearlescent paint, the trademark Spitfire speed yellow pinstripe accents the side strakes and deck lid, complemented by satin carbon fibre front and rear diffusers.
A badge of pure distinction, the Aston Martin wings are made from solid sterling silver with a tailored Old English White inlay, while owners may choose an original Spitfire serial number lacquered into the side strakes.
Inside the Q by Aston Martin styled cockpit, thoughtful Spitfire detailing abounds. A Raven Black ‘Spitfire 80’ logo is beautifully embroidered into the Kestral Tan leather headrests and saddle leather floor mats, with sheepskin inserts in tribute to the iconic Irvin Flying Jacket.
Completing its theme, the Spitfire 80 is delivered with bespoke accessories including a unique Irvin Flying Jacket stitched with the Spitfire 80 logo, an Irvin flying helmet and goggles, embossed owner manual and a leather photograph album documenting the handover ceremony.
In addition to its highly effective yet discreet traction control systems, the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 boasts a full set of airbags. Typically, even the safety equipment gets its own character – the passenger airbags are embroidered with a unique Spitfire aircraft identification code. Parking sensors front and rear are standard to guard against contact, with an optional reversing camera.
On this unique day, each new owner was treated to a unique experience of Spitfire’s heritage, beginning at the Conservation Hall in the Airspace exhibition with a talk from a veteran Spitfire pilot.
The VIP treatment continued with a Spitfire flight, a drive in an armoured vehicle, a personal tour and presentation from the Q by Aston Martin design team, and finally the chance to drive their V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80, before witnessing one of the last Mark 1 Spitfires perform a stunning aerial display.
