The EU has developed a new test to measure fuel consumption and CO₂ figures called the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). Official fuel consumption in mpg for the BMW X Series range is between 20.8 mpg and 235.4 mpg and CO₂ emission figures range between 39g/km and 308g/km. Values are provided for comparison only, to the extent that fuel and energy consumption or CO₂ values are given as ranges and do not relate to an individual car or constitute part of the offer. Optional features and accessories can change relevant vehicle parameters which may result in a change in fuel or energy consumption and CO₂ values. Vehicle loading, topography, weather and traffic conditions, as well as individual driving styles, can all affect the actual fuel consumption, energy consumption, electrical range, and CO₂ emissions of a car.
In platform and drivetrain the X6 is closely related to the X5 SUV, so as you’d expect design is the key difference between the two models. The X6 features the latest and biggest BMW kidney grille design and if you want you can opt for the illuminated ‘Iconic Glow’ grille. The latest X6 has a longer wheelbase and lower roof height than its predecessor, with the coupé roofline tapering all the way back to the tailgate’s duck-tail spoiler. The rear lights stretch almost the entire width of the car and the X6 side panels are concave to suggest lean muscularity before swelling out over the rear wheel arches. Inside, myriad interior colour options now include perforated Vernasca leather trim in Cognac/Black or Beige/Black combinations. All X6 models feature an eight-speed auto transmission and the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system. This prioritises rear wheel drive, only bringing the front wheels under power when the rear wheels lose traction.
The range starts with the xDrive30d. Its 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel develops 265hp while peak torque is 620Nm. 0-62mph takes 6.5 seconds and fuel economy is between 42.8-46.3mpg. Next up is the petrol xDrive40i that delivers 340hp, hitting the zero to 62mph benchmark sprint in 5.5 seconds and returning 32.8-35.3mpg. The two flagships are the M50d diesel (400bhp and 760Nm, 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and 39.2-40.9mpg) and the X6 M50i, with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet powering it from a standstill to 62mph in just 4.3 seconds.
