Jardine Motors Group has received the Bronze Employer award from Stonewall for its commitment to the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer people in the workplace. This is the first time Jardine Motors has been assessed as part of the charity’s Workplace Equality Index, which enables the Group to measure its progress in this area of inclusion.
Stonewall is the second-largest LGBTQ+ charity and has been supporting companies to create welcoming workplaces for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer people for 20 years. According to the charity’s research, more than a third of LGBTQ+ colleagues (35%) hide who they are at work, while one in five (18%) have been the target of negative comments because they’re LGBTQ+.
“We believe in creating a culture removed of bias or stereotypes, in which all of our colleagues feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work,” said Clare Wright, Group HR Director at Jardine Motors Group. “This allows the best talent to shine, helps us to think more innovatively and, in turn, enables us to better serve our customers.
“We partnered with Stonewall in 2020 to help inspire and challenge our thinking as a business. With the charity’s support we work to create real, positive change so that LGBTQ+ colleagues can flourish. It’s great to receive this award in recognition of our progress and we look forward to taking more steps towards creating a truly inclusive culture, with the help of our colleagues who continue to lead the way on the issues that are important to them.”
Liz Ward, Director of Programmes at Stonewall, added: “We spend so much of our time at work and our career can be a huge part of how we define ourselves. Every single lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer person should be able to be themselves at work.
“It’s fantastic that Jardine Motors Group has gained the Bronze Employer award for their efforts and commitment to creating an inclusive work environment, and we look forward to seeing and supporting the rest of their inclusion journey.”
