As the name implies, the Design Edition is all about the looks – it’s not as if there’s anything to complain about in the standard 718 model’s performance. The package includes contrast stripes in black or white with matching high-gloss alloy wheels. Alternatively, you can opt to delete the stripes at no cost for a minimalist look. Alloys are 20-inch 718 Spyder wheels, with Porsche crests on the centre caps. At the back, there are black sport tailpipes and Porsche lettering in high-gloss silver, while the soft top has ‘Boxster’ lettering embossed above the side windows. A vivid magenta finish, Ruby Star Neo, is a modern interpretation of the Ruby Star shade offered in the ‘90s on the Porsche 964 and is exclusive to the Style Edition. Other colours are available, so visit the online configurator to find your perfect combination. Interior extras include black leather upholstery with contrast stitching in chalk, illuminated stainless steel door sills and embossed Porsche crests on the headrests.
PERFORMANCE
All Style Edition models are powered by the entry-level 718’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, which develops 300 metric horsepower and 380Nm of torque. The six-speed manual transmission comes as standard, though if lap times are your ultimate priority you can opt for the seven-speed PDK. Acceleration times for the manual models are 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, while it’s 4.7s for the PDK. Try the manual first though, it’s a joy to snick through those gears.
TECHNOLOGY
You won’t need to spend thousands extra on the options list, as the Style Edition models are very well equipped as standard. The specification includes BiXenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, Park Assist front and rear, rearview camera, Apple® CarPlay, cruise control, rain sensor, auto dimming mirrors, heated seats, heated leather multifunction steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control.
SAFETY
No change from the standard 718 model for safety features, so you’ll be protected by the Porsche Side Impact Protection System and driver and passenger airbags that inflate in stages according to the type and severity of the accident. Lane Change Assist, Porsche Active Safe, and Adaptive Cruise Control are among the options.
