The Carrera S follows the same timeless design and curves of the iconic 911 shape in two body styles – the coupe and cabriolet. The coupe embodies the brand’s DNA in its purest form with a long, flat bonnet, steep windscreen, and sloping roofline, whilst the cabriolet offers open air enjoyment with a fully automatic roof which opens and closes in just 12 seconds. Built around the driver, the interior nods to the brand’s motorsport heritage with a clutter-free dashboard and sports seats. But that doesn’t mean you have to skimp on luxury. The Carrera S is beautifully finished with high quality materials covering every inch from the gear selector to the door handles, with expert detailing. The rear seats are surprisingly comfy and double up as 264 litres of storage space whilst the luggage compartment holds 132 litres.
PERFORMANCE
The addition of an ‘S’ to any Porsche equates to enhanced performance and sportier handling. This means, in the Carrera S, you can expect more power as well as larger brakes and wheels. The potent 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six rear engine produces 443hp and makes the 0 – 62mph sprint in as little as 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 191mph. Power is passed through an 8-speed PDK gearbox (or you can choose a 7-speed manual) whilst PASM increases ride comfort and dynamics. The Sport Chrono package tunes the transmission, chassis, and brakes for high performance and includes a mode switch to choose between driving modes quickly and easily. Launch Control gives you the best possible standing start – and emits a powerful roar.
TECHNOLOGY
Tech in the Carrera S has been stripped down to the essentials; there’s nothing to distract you from the car’s character. Carried over from 911s of old, the analogue rev counter remains central to the instrument cluster alongside two 7” displays. There’s also a 10.9” central display for the latest Porsche Communication Management functions like real-time navigation. The “Hey Porsche” voice pilot has been upgraded, smartphone integration is now available through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 911 drivers can use Apple Music for up to six months for free. As part of the Sport Chrono package you’ll also gain access to the Porsche Track Precision App, so you can record performance and lap times.
SAFETY
The Carrera S models are equipped with six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston equivalents at the rear. The brake disc diameter is adapted to the increased power output, 350mm at the front and rear. For even greater stopping power, you can opt for ceramic composite brakes. Porsche Stability Management acts as a safety blanket by maintaining stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance, whilst Wet mode increases traction when driving in the rain. The Carrera S comes with advanced driver assistance systems such as Warn and Brake Assist and optional Adaptive Cruise Control, but rest assured the tech doesn’t interfere with the driving experience.
