The Targa’s reputation as a design icon was etched into the history books due to its style-defining roll bar. And with the highly innovative, fully automatic roof system now in its seventh generation, Porsche engineers have evolved it into a technical masterclass. The roll bar itself is adorned with the Targa logo under the side gills, and enjoys a graceful rounded rear screen. The interior is infused with over 60 years of experience in sports car construction. Overall it projects the perfect blend of pioneering technology and sporty comfort. Whether it’s leather or Alcantara, all the materials are exquisite and puristic.
PERFORMANCE
The Targa 4 comes equipped with a 380bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre flat-six rear engine coupled with an eight-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission – although a seven-speed manual gearbox is also available. This equates to an impressive 0 – 62mph time of just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 179mph. With four-wheel drive as standard, Porsche has upgraded the chassis to ensure the best handling and stability. But that’s not all; the Sport Chrono Package takes performance a step further for an even sportier tuning of the engine and transmission. Sport Response unleashes maximum power for 20-second bursts whilst a mode switch allows you to easily choose between driving styles.
TECHNOLOGY
Enhanced Porsche Traction Management (PTM) is an essential feature of all 911 all-wheel drive models. Initially derived from the 911 Turbo, the electronically controlled and fully variable multi-plate clutch distributes drive force between the permanently driven rear axle and the front axle even faster and more precisely than ever before. Traction is heightened by Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), which is fitted as standard. And for the first time, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the electronic damping control system comes as standard too. The new rear-axle steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) are available on request.
SAFETY
All new 911 models offer advanced airbag technology including full-size driver and front passenger airbags. These are inflated in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident. And to underline their safety, all new 911 models are also equipped as standard with the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP). Should a potential roll-over be detected, the car will deploy the roll-over bars within fractions of a second. For the 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S, added roll-over safety is provided by a steel protection system concealed behind the aluminium trim of the Targa roll bar.
