The new Macan, which will be available in both EV and petrol-powered versions, has a sportier, more coupé-like profile than the model it replaces. There are hints of the Taycan and newly revised Cayenne in the silhouette, and the shallow pitch of the bonnet with clearly defined wings give the front end a sleeker, more dynamic look. Headlamps feature the four-point daytime running lights and there’s a full-width LED rear light bar. The new Macan is longer and wider than the outgoing model, as well as being a fraction lower. A longer wheelbase gives more interior space and there’s more luggage room too, with a 540-litre boot and 84-litre ‘frunk’.
PERFORMANCE
Both the Macan 4 Electric and its more powerful stablemate the Turbo Electric are powered by a 95kWh battery as part of the new 800 Volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. In the Macan 4 this gives a range of up to 381 miles. Latest generation permanently excited PSM electric motors, one at each end, deliver all-wheel drive and a maximum power output of 408PS, for a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 5.2 seconds. With a charging at up to 270kW, the electric Macan can top up its battery from 10 percent to 80 per cent in just 21 minutes.
TECHNOLOGY
Inside, driver and passenger are served by up to three digital displays. Driver information is provided by a 12-6-inch instrument cluster, while infotainment and other settings can be found on the standard 10.9-inch central touchscreen. There are also physical buttons and toggles for certain functions, which are easier for the driver to locate without looking away from the road. The third, optional display is an additional 10.9-inch touchscreen in front of the passenger with the facility to stream videos, tinted so that the driver cannot be distracted by them. The new infotainment system operates on the Android Automotive OS, with a ‘Hey Porsche’ voice assistant as well as a new Porsche App Centre.
SAFETY
Macan 4 Electric comes standard with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (detects cars, pedestrians, cyclists and forward cross-traffic), lane-keeping assist, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, and front and rear parking sensors. Other options include Porsche InnoDrive with active lane keeping, surround view with active parking and adaptive cruise control. Another option, the Augmented Reality head up display, puts directional arrows within a realistic 3D depiction of the road layout ahead.
